Pressure vessels can also fail below their static strength if they are subjected to cyclic load cycles. Although this fatigue life can be determined by calculation, it must be verified with a suitable test for approval in accordance with the current standards and guidelines.

To do this, the vessel is cyclically loaded and unloaded with a non-corrosive fluid until the susceptibility to fatigue failure can be determined or eliminated for a given service life.
